Question of the Day 7/24/2008 ...UPDATE... Clifford

Good Morning/Afternoon Everybody

My friends , it looks like I done it again last night. I fell asleep in my recliner instead of getting into chat room like I wanted to. Maybe I'll be awake the next time I hope.

I hope you all are doing well. It is 71 degrees and partly cloudy here in Alabama this morning. It cooled off some late yesterday afternoon.

Here's the question for today.

Would you lie to protect those that you love?

*************************** ****UPDATE***UPDATE*** ****************************

Angelina gave me permission to update this to put in her message.

My friends Angelina and I had a little debate here. Her first reply to my question was : Yes , absolutely and a few other words so she felt a little awkward about the answer and asked me to delete it , she needed more time to answer that question in a better way.

So I asked her if she would lie if she saw me knock somebody dead cold and they sued me would you lie for me saying I didn't do it?

Here's her answer.

2:03:04 AM 27826 : : Clifford..no I would not lie for you because your actions deserve punishment. I was thinking if I was in Iraq and was kidnapped by terrorists. I would lie until they killed me before I told where you were. Now you all can answer my question above.

Angelina , thanks for letting me update this.

Date: 7/24/2008 1:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 64123    If it were a matter of safety, absolutely.
Date: 7/24/2008 1:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    No!!!You would not only let them down in the long run but yourself also...living a lie is never good...
Date: 7/24/2008 1:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 11176    no lies only lead to trouble
Date: 7/24/2008 2:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    I'm assuming you are talking about family members or close friends right???
Date: 7/24/2008 2:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 27826    I would not lie TO MY LOVED ONES to protect them but I will lie FOR them in order to protect them in a situation such as war. If I had been kidnapped while I was in Iraq in 2004, I would rather lie, be beaten to a pulp, and killed before I would give any information to terrorists that will put my battle buddies at the risk of danger.
Date: 7/24/2008 3:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    I would not lie to protect my loved ones if it meant to protect them from being punished for something they have said or done that deserved punishment ie; as in murder, assault, theft and a good chance they could go to jail because of these examples. Now in a case like Lina has mentioned above, that is an entirely different scenario and I agree with what she says, that is lying to save lives...
Date: 7/24/2008 3:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 62881    Only if it were a matter of life or death...now, if a loved one participated in a criminal act or even committed it and I had knowledge of it...and if found guilty of that act meant the death penalty...I could not lie to protect them...they did the crime and would have to take whatever punishment they were dealt. It would hurt me to have to tell...but it would be the right thing to do.
Date: 7/24/2008 4:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 53961    There are different scenarios that could relate to this and there are some that may require keeping mum.
Date: 7/24/2008 4:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 23207    Depends on the circumstances. Lying is one of my biggest pet peeves though.
Date: 7/24/2008 5:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 57640    If I had to lie in order to keep them alive, yes. If it was a matter of someone in my family going to jail for something they did, then no. It's situational really.
Date: 7/24/2008 5:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 28848    Depends on the situation.
Date: 7/24/2008 6:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 63743    It would depend on the situation...if its something that is not a dead or life situation I probably wouldnt, but if it was something like war, kidnapping....I would in a heartbeat.
Date: 7/24/2008 6:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 11199    I would lie to protect my family from danger. I wouldn't lie to keep them from getting the punishment they deserved. However, I would encourage them to fess up to their actions and that their isn't anything that they could do that would change my love for them
Date: 7/24/2008 7:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 35178    I completely agree with Angelina.
Date: 7/24/2008 8:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 21903    I like her answer. I think it depends solely on what I'm lying ABOUT. :)
Date: 7/24/2008 1:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 21764    yes, i also agree with lina
Date: 7/24/2008 3:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 13546    Depends on the situation I suppose.
Date: 7/24/2008 3:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 64498    I agree with Angelina!
Date: 7/24/2008 4:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 45630    if people truly loved you they wouldn't expect you to lie to get them out of trouble. I would lie however to save my wife and daughter from pain, death or other terrible things.
Date: 7/24/2008 5:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    I'm with Release Me on this one. It would depend on the situation.
Date: 7/25/2008 6:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 21839    I thought about something like this when the drunk driver case was going on for the guy who killed Crash, what if Crash was the one who was drunk, would I be able to get on the stand & lie. I know that my brother would facae the consequences & would not expect us to lie for him, so no, I would not lie to keep them out of trouble for something they know they did was wrong, but I would die trying to protect my family or friends...
