Cracking down on prescription drugs what would you do?

Where I live alot of people who depend on prescription drugs for many different illnesses, and go down to Mexico to buy their medication. Because it is cheaper then the US. Well my friend who has alot of heart problems who buys her meds down there is having a hard time getting a pharmacy to sell to her. From what I have been gathering from people the US is really cracking down on what comes over the border. My debate is do you think this is right? If you were sick and depended on meds and were low income. Going to Mexico was the only way you could afford your prescriptions what would you do? Like the USA doesn't make enough money already on prescription drugs. Everytime you go to the doctor they are writing you atleast one. So I just thought I would share this.

Date: 8/19/2003 5:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    How is it that American companies can sell their product so much cheaper in other countries? You know that the Viagra that old Mr. Jones runs down to get from Mexico comes from the same Pfizer plant that makes the Viagra that ends up in your local pharmacy. Once again, it comes down to lining the right pockets, in my opinion.
Date: 8/19/2003 5:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 59876    true merc. we bought erythmericin (sp?) and penicillin in tiajuana when i was out insurance. less than twenty bucks a pop for a hundred pills each bottle and it was packaged and sealed in kentucky lol.
Date: 8/19/2003 5:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 59876    oh, the reason being for not having insurance was i was fresh out of high school and making $4.25 an hour. work did not offer insurance and the cheapest rate i could find was $130.00 a month through kaiser which was not a feasible rate for insurance at $4.25 an hour on the job.
Date: 8/19/2003 6:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 15394    I think the medical industry in this country has priorities that are askew... it is pitiful that people that actually NEED medication cannot have it because of their income... something seriously wrong with a system that values the dollar more than the health of its supporters... sad...
Date: 8/19/2003 6:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 48809    What a pitiful thing to deprive people who need their prescriptions and cannot afford the obscene prices that they are forced to pay for them . I know a man that has lost his health insurance... as so many others have also, he says the prescription for his illness costs him $1,000 a month and he can no longer afford it! When our government allows things like this to happen and money becomes more important than one's health, I consider this to be an all time low for our country!
Date: 8/19/2003 6:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    --Why not help your friend?? Here is a website for help in getting low cost or free prescription drugs www.rxcaresforme.org/
Date: 8/19/2003 7:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 16671    Lots of us, me included get by from pay check to pay check. the cost of insurance is so high that one cant really afford it. The job were on doesnt offer it. My sister goes to mexico during the winter and lately I've been having her pick up what I know they I end up needing. Shoot last time she went she got me meds and it only came to forty two bucks for all that I needed that lasted me over three months on some and still have plenty on the others. It cost fifty to 75 bucks just to get into the doctors office and then for the same pills I would have had to pay almost 300. I think this country has gone too far. I feel so bad for those older folks that cant get meds from mexico and cant afford them here.
Date: 8/19/2003 8:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 18527    Well I get my birth control from Colombia because its 2 dollars vs 85 dollars here
Date: 8/19/2003 8:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 48809    Thanks Kelly, I am sure this will help him a lot.
Date: 8/19/2003 8:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 58611    I think it is terrible that one would have to cross the border just to be able to afford prescriptions! Health care here in America really sucks! The prices are outrageous, not everyone can afford insurance, even with the employers covering half of it, family insurance is outrageous! I think it is sickening that these uncaring idoits are profiting off us and driving thier mercedes while so many of us are suffering and going without medical care because of it..We should really really start writting our local governments and start doing more about this instead of letting them keep hurting us. When is it going to stop?
Date: 8/19/2003 8:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 54987    This is my opinion right? This is a disease-care society, not a health-care society. The big corps are making mega-bucks on treatment for diseases. So, why would they want to find cures? It serves them to keep the population ill, and that's another reason that they are against alternative treatments. Now, they have to keep making larger and larger profits right? So, why not invent new diseases? Or even make old ones more serious, like horny toenails that require Lamisil to kill those ugly critters who crawl under your nails and cause havoc. Lamisil has side effect, like most drugs, and can cause liver damage. Good news for the big corps!!!! Now you'll need more drugs! They're busy 'trying' to find, not cures, but vaccines for West Nile... which in turn will create some other problem... ad infinitum. Prescription prices are way way out of order and so are the pharmaceutical companies. Trouble is, these companies are the biggest contributors, along with oil, who fund our political parties. Phew! There!
Date: 8/19/2003 9:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 54987    Oh and thanks to Kelly for that site address. I'll pass it on to my sick friends.
Date: 8/19/2003 9:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 29532    I would still do it and also contact my congressman.
Date: 8/19/2003 9:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 29532    I would still do it and also contact my congressman.
Date: 8/19/2003 9:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 29532    Grrrrr @ My cpu.
Date: 8/19/2003 10:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 53284    If it's legal, you have a prescription, I don't see what's wrong with crossing the border to purchase them at a lower price.
Date: 8/19/2003 11:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 59876    because it isn't legal wildbob. i remember a moment's panic when i had to put my bag up on the conveyor to get back to the us side lol. it was random search then, i don't know about now.
Date: 8/19/2003 11:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    Hey, no problem Koolade. There is always someone willing to give free hand outs if you know where to look.
Date: 8/19/2003 12:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 18527    I've never had a problem, but Depo-provera isn't a controlled substance, and also has veterinary use so I have been ok. Veterinary drugs are also way cheaper! Ketaset, an anesthetic, is 15 dollars a vial in Colombia and 150 dollars here! I always get nervous smuggling it back because some people use it to get high... but all my friends pets are spayed and neutered
Date: 8/19/2003 1:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 48809    Koolade, you are so right ! The big pharmaceutical companies are making money hand over fist , in some places it is nearly $100 anymore just for a visit to the Dr. office . Dentists are charging anywhere from $1,200 to $1,600 for a root canal plus around here some people have said they are paying their Dr. and the hospital $10,000 to deliver a baby! We all know that it is surely likely that after so many years of research that a cure for cancer or even the common cold should have been found by this time, if the scientists were really trying! While trying to convince us that "they care".. I believe the government is right in there with the medical industry and allowing them to do their foul deeds and could care less about any of us but instead are looking out for their own interests. With all the money rolling in to the doctors, hospitals and the pharmaceutical companies, there is hardly an incentive to find a cure for anything... why kill the goose that laid the golden egg?
Date: 8/19/2003 2:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    Everyone who needs prescription drugs but can't afford it and they are force to buy through Mexico should stand up and scream very loud to our govenment..We the people will fight you! We the people will not die because you do not help your own! We the people are sick of you pocketing money at our expense! People do not HAVE TO let the US do anything. If enough people would only stand together and fight back, to be heard, then we could make things happen.
Date: 8/19/2003 5:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    Way to go Rosure!
Date: 8/19/2003 10:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34814    Right on man.. I'm so happy to see people who agree with me on this. Speaking on dentists!!!!! I have had problems with my gums brushing upward for about 2 years now and they found out 2 years later after damage and 12 dentist at 125 a pop for an exam! To say I can't help you! That I need braces. Finally one dentist told me it is because my jaw is to small and my teeth are crammed in, cause the ligiments to swell! Stressing the gums. So add 10,000 bucks for pulling some teeth and braces. Add 4,000 or more in gum surgery. Add about 3,000 or more in visits, add 500 in sedation for my upcoming surgery and that is my grand total for the problem let go long enough that now I have to have surgery to fix them. I am soo ticked off and if you read into my archives you will see me making posts on receeding gums. FB even talked to me about it a few times. Well they waited long enough until I just found a dentist who nailed what is causing it. Cause my gums are healthy pink no gingivitis. Well just in time now they I have to have 4 grafts. Lovley huh! What can I do? I have to max out credit cards, but all is well while they drive their nice cars and take their nice vactions. I will be working 3 jobs to pay it off. XOXOX I have spent over 2,000 with traveling frees and exams just trying to find the problem. I have spent 1500 in home remedies thinking I could maybe save it. When all the time it was teeth being to tight. Since I left my dentist in FL all I have met is crooks. My town won't give me assistance! Insurance would be 360 a month on my Dad's plan and these other ones are rip off. My dentist made me a mouth guard for flouride treatments. They fitted my mouth made the lil plastic thing. Took 5 minutes tops. That was 280 bucks. My last cleaning was 200. I don't mean to whine, but guys I am gonna be in dental bills for a longtime. Just thought I would share my hell!
Date: 8/19/2003 11:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34814    May I also add that there is a 70 percent chance the grafts will take and there is a 50 percent chance after cutting into the roof of my mouth that I could have sinus problems the rest of my life. I just pray all goes well for me after shelling out all this cash, cause I have no choice now that it has gone this long by 12 people who were morons and don't deserve to be dentists.
Date: 8/19/2003 11:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 59876    well if it will make you feel even slgightly better, we've paid over ten grand for chicklet teeth and that is with insurance. i am missing six adult teeth, they were never there, so i had a gap on each side of my front teeth. when they capped my front teeth, they made the teeth extra large to fill the gaps. ever seen dennis the menace where dennis replaces mr. wilson's teeth with chicklets? that is abot how it looks. >
Date: 8/19/2003 11:16:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34814    What is so messed up hun is my teeth are perfect minus one little cavity. They are just to tight in the jaw area. My teeth are to perfect to pull. It is my gums that are messing up, cause of the tightness. I am so sorry to hear about your problem. ERRRRRRRR Thanks for sharring
Date: 8/19/2003 11:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 59876    is it going to et better now that you've had teeth pulled? we got a loan for the dentistry, can you do that? it was the only option because it is so costly and that is with insurance. we have pretty crappy dental insurance. unfortunately i have very weak teeth and when i got pregnant they started deteriorating badly. my husband has beautiful teeth and i'd hoped my son would inherit them lol but unfortunately, he got mine. he is only two years, two months and already has lost his front teeth after chipping one of them.
Date: 8/20/2003 1:12:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34814    O no thats terrible. The state I live in is terrible for dental. Their answer is to just yank em. They will have to pull some teeth for my braces. My teeth are very healthy. My Mom has healthy teeth and my Dad doesn't. I got lucky and just wish I would have got braces back when I had insurance! ERRR
Date: 8/20/2003 12:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    the reason is because the government gets no money from it, if the money isnt going to the government you cant have it
Date: 8/20/2003 12:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 30051    I didn't know you could do that..I pay out the rear for my meds. I need to make a trip to Mexico! Do you just bring your Rx to a pharmacy there?
Date: 8/20/2003 2:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34814    CoryAnn tons of people do it all day long. XOXOX
Date: 8/20/2003 3:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 59876    i didn't take a prescription, i just asked for what i wanted
Date: 8/20/2003 4:47:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34814    I know people who do their dental work there to and are really happy with the dentist there. I would rather do it in the US because if they mess me up I am gonna sue them till the cows come home. I just don't think it is clean enough down there for that kinda stuff.
Date: 8/20/2003 4:48:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34814    My friends surgery in her mouth looked good and she said the last spoke english and the office was spotless. I dunno. Prescripts yeah surgery I dunno. She was quoted 23,000 on her mouth and paid 6,000 down there.
