I have a leak in my windshield of my car and when it rains (it has been raining cats and dogs here in AL) all the water pours onto the carpet I have tried soaking the water up with sheets but I think that the padding has become soured anyway it smells like rotten fish, I can't stand that smell any more I have tried fresh ground coffee

Date: 3/10/2003 9:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301    ...carpets that remain wet for a long period of time will eventually become a haven for molds and fungi. If you lift your carpet and find small mushrooms or mold, I'd get rid of the carpeting and try to repair the leak (if possible). Some car leaks are near impossible to locate and repair.
Date: 3/10/2003 9:24:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 44237    Thanks for responding so quickly, the leak is not very old, maybe I can fix the leak before it gets any worse.

Date: 3/10/2003 9:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 21867    ...argh...know what you mean...that wet car carpet smell is a dickens to try and get rid of...and if its been over a long time then near impossible. One thing I did to 'kinda' get rid of the smell on one old car I had was just sprinkle around an entire box of baking soda (or was it powder, umm, think it was soda) around on the carpets amd left it to work in for a few days before vaccuming it out. Seemed to do a better job that the carpet shampoos, Shake'N'Vac, Air Deoderizers etc I used without success. Peace,
Date: 3/10/2003 9:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 44960    I know what you mean about the rain, I live Alabama as well, we have had our share of the wet stuff. I would suggest that you get the leak fixed as soon as you can so it does'nt any major damage. In the meantime, try spraying some Citrus Majic on the carpet. This stuff covers oders real well.
Date: 3/10/2003 9:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    if it's in the windshield why not just replace it and then use like hmmmm febreeze and maybe like baking soda or something on the rugs hehe
Date: 3/11/2003 5:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 56176    i had that happen 2 me, for the leak, get a water hose, and spray it until you find the leak, put clear silacon on the leak, and now 4 the smell, get a spray bottle, and vanilla,<the kind you use to cook with>and put some in the spray bottle with a little water, and spray it,and then get a small bowl and fill it with vanilla, place near the sour smell ,and let it sit over night, and also the next day,put some charllco in a sock under your seat, the smell should go away
