A scene from Beauty and the Beast that reminds me of early christians and witches....

Okay as I've been wacthing that movie lately I noticed something. Okay Gustan accuses belles dad of being crazy because of the beast and belle brings out the mirror and shows everyone that her dad's not crazy. Then Gustan (hope I'm spellin his name right...lol) takes the mirror, gets jealous, and starts telling the villagers how this beast is going to cause havock and turmoil to the village and how he'll eat their children and all that stuff. So then he says 'lets kill the beast' and the villagers all scared and such agree. So they go singing their song and one line goes something similar to 'we dont like what we don't understand in fact it scares us...' So then as we all know they go to kill the beast and then gustan and the beast fight and so forth so forth. Does anyone else think this reminds them of what early christians did to witches? Agree? disagree? What do you think?-Kaja aka Queen Crazy

Date: 10/14/2002 7:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 20296    not really personally. you could relate that to anyone and anything I think, not just witches and christians. Besides in early days, you are using the title "christian" very losely. I think they were not only "christians" but puritans....i think. anyways...duh. better shud up now before I make myself seem silly:)LOL but like I said, nope...didn't think that or relate that. it is that way with almost everything, including what some might say about christianity. others are afriad of jesus because they do not "know him"???? just wondering:)
Date: 10/14/2002 7:46:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15675    well i'm not trying to be insulting i guess yes thats a lose term and yes this could apply to anything i just thought it was similar...
Date: 10/14/2002 8:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 19482    DUDE! We just watched that movie in Choir today!! LOL, and now that you mention it, it does remind me of the Burning Times!! thanks for pointing that out!
Date: 10/14/2002 8:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 51070    It's Gaston. I loved this movie as a child and it DOES remind me of the Witch Trials. I agree completely.
Date: 10/14/2002 9:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    there are alotta intersting things in disney movies if you look past the basics of the story... like mary poppins basically promotes magic

Date: 10/15/2002 7:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 53500    Crazy Queen< What about the early pagans killing the early Christians?? It kind of reminds me of that. And this whole Inquistion thing, that was the Catholic Chruch, not Christianity. Don't confuse the two. SUEDE
Date: 10/15/2002 3:01:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15675    okay I generalized sue me :P. Yes you are correct suede but it happend differntly then the above scenario. Actually I know that christians were killed by pagans (not the same pagans as the witches that were burned...) and werent they roman? Didnt they make them slaves or gladiators? Its just this witch trial thing was slightly differnt because not everyone killed was even a witch!
Date: 10/16/2002 6:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 53500    Kaja< The actual history of the Inquistion, the Spainish one, was to convert the Jews to Catholicism. It is truly unfortunate that "others" got caught up in the mess as well. I guess the thing that bugs me, is the misinformation about the Inquistion. One it was the Catholic Chruch, and two they were really after the Jews. Europe had a huge Anti Semitic policy back then. Of course since those countries were going after the Jews, they tacked on extras as well, i.e. pagans. Also, yes, unmentioned is the murder of Christians by pagans, as well as the murder of Jews by pagans all throughout all of history. If anyone has truly had it bad, it's the Jews, and that needs to be acknowledged. The most recent of these was of course Germany's campaign against them, around just 70 years ago. So yea, both pagans and Christians have had their bad times, on both ends of the spectrum, but the people that have had it truly bad has been the Jews, a fact constantly ignored by all other sides. SUEDE
Date: 10/16/2002 12:15:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15675    yes poor jews! I know they have had it bad... No you do hear about the christians but see im not really talkin bout the inquisition (cant spell argh!) I'm talkin about the witch hunts like the salem witch trials (werent they protastant? correct me if im wrong..) and the ones in england and europe
