For a discussion question about conversion *The Dark Angel*

I want you to imagine the following scenerio for me if you will. Try and bear all the details on mind:

**One sunday morning in Cedar Springs Babtist Church, Reverend Johnson informs the congregation that there is going to be a missionary mission to Africa to witness and convert some members of the African Tribe of Moji. 5 or 6 people volunteer and a week later they arrive in Kenya, Africa. The next day, the missionaries set out for the Moji village.

Upon finding the village, they discover the religion of the Maji people is unlike their own. They have a God for everything, the Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, sky, rain, lightning, even a God of Agriculture. If something goes good, the Gods are pleased, if it does not, they sacrifice bundles of corn to please the Gods.

The missionaries set to work with witnessing and converting the people, as the Bible has said they should. They tell them about the Christian Doctrine, Christ, the Trinity, everything. They even pass out Bibles which they have brought so the people could furthur their study.

10 days later, out of the 100 people in the Maji tribe, 50 of them have converted to Christianity.

--Now heres where it gets interesting--

The Chief, hearing some of his people have forsaken their sacred ways, is utterly angered. These "intruders" he calls them, have come into their way of life and destroyed thousands of years of tradition by converting members of his tribe. As a result, a great bloodshed occurs in which the 50 converts and the 50 traditionals go to war with each other. As a result of the missionaries, the tribe is utterly destroyed in conflict. Men, women, children, the pregnent, the elderly, none are safe from the havoc of the war. In addition, during the war the vast majority of huts and living quarters have been burned down, leaving the few survivors of the Maji tribe with absolutely nothing but the little clothing on their back.***

Now the question is, since the missionaries were following "Gods Word" when they came to convert the tribe, not only did they cause unrest among the tribe but they were responsible for destroying generations of tradition and causing the bloodiest battle in the history of the Maji people, was this Gods will?

Would God have wanted this, even though NOT converting them would be against his will also?

Some burdens heavier than others. Christ didn't promise us a walk in the park on earth.
Date: 10/21/2002 6:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 52140    Mat 10:16-22 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against [their] parents, and cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

AND
Jer 1:7-8,17 But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I [am] a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I [am] with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

Jer 1:18-19 For, behold, I have made thee his day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I [am] with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.
Look at Paul and all he had to suffer. For centries, Roman pagans (emperors in general) persecuted my brethren, all for the fact that they didn't worship old gods.... I don't really know the exact reasons, but the way the pagans killed was WRONG. It also says that trials produce endurance and endurance.... yada yada I can not find the verse for the life of me!! I have looked and looked.... but I just can't find it. and what does this have to do with what we've been talking about... ugh.... men

Date: 10/21/2002 8:01:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15319    Oh PLEASE Alisha don't EVEN attempt to compare body counts between our two religions. That is one battle you are SORELY lacking firepower in. And you didn't answer my question, wether their religion is right or wrong in your Gods eyes, was THIS the will of God?
Date: 10/22/2002 3:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 52140    umm... yes I think I did. Obviously God let it happen, so it was for the good of the people, whether it was from God or not I cannot say. But I do know this. God works out all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans something....). Anyway, lacking firepower? All right, I guess I have a new debate.
