The bell rang throughout the school. Piles of students rushed out of the stuffy hot classrooms. Mobs of kids talked about how their days were as they exited Cresten Jr. High. To Roxy, this was life. Roxanne Boulard hurried to her friends by the northern exit of the school. They were talking about how hot the weather was. It was the beggining of the school year, but because of the weather, it seemed like summer. Fall was just next week! Out of the corner of her eye, Roxy saw her crush, Bryan. He dashed toward the exit. He was wearing a blue Hawiian shirt with beige shorts. Pretty much all of the guys were dressed like this because of the weather. The girls' outfits consisted of tank tops and shorts. "Ewww...," Roxy's best-friend, Vanessa, shrieked as Bryan ran out the door,"Roxy I can't believe you like him!" "I know!," Roxy's other friend, Heather chimed in," He is like so the opposite of cool." "Tell me about it!," Another friend of Roxy, Kat screeched," He is butt-ugly!" Roxy wasn't paying attention at all. She was gazing out the window at the quad where Bryan stood laughing with his friends. A dreamy look fell onto her face. She loved the way he laughed. "Roxy," Heather said as she waved her bracelet filled hand infront of Roxy," Hello?" "Oh sorry," Roxy responded as the group walked through the double-doors. "So why do you like him?" Heather inquired. Heather was the one was always giving Roxy a hard time about liking him. "Well he has the sweetest personality, and he's cute and-" "Ewww!" the whole group replied in unison as soon as Roxy mentioned cute.
Roxy looked at her watch. It was 2:50 p.m. Her mom wanted her home by 3:00 to feed her dogs and cats. Roxy announced to the group that she had to head home. They said their good byes and Roxy fled towards her street.
Her street was always deserted around this time. Most of the residents on her block were either new couples with toddlers, or old couples whose kids moved out of the state. The only 8th grader, like Roxy, who lived on her block was Jason. Jason was your average type of guy. He wasn't hot, yet he wasn't geeky. Roxy never stopped to say hi. She was too into Bryan. In elementary school, they used to be the best of friends. When they started Junior High, something changed. They each got a new group of friends. Roxy with her crew and Jason with his. When she walked up her street, she looked across it. There, Jason walked. He looked at her and then turned his head away. Their eyes met. Jason looked away, and he darted for his house.
Roxy was grossed out of what had happened in the past moments. She went into her house still grossed out. She hurried and headed to the kitchen. Roxy forgot about what happened and started to feed her pets. Just as her pets started eating, the phone rang.
She picked the phone up.
"Hello?" she answered.
"Is this Roxy?" the mysterious person asked. "Is this the cable man?! Again? I told you stop calling! We are not interested! Leave us alone!" "Um...this is Bryan."
Roxy almost fell to the floor. She took a deep breath. She felt her face turn hot. She knew she was blushing. "Oh, sorry! Anyway, hi!"
"I was just wondering..."
"Yes, I'd love to go to the movies."
"I just wanted the math homework." She felt her face turn red, again.
"Well, now that y-you brought it up. Would you like to go see Jason X ? "Like, a-a date?"
"Yeah, l-like a-a d-date," he stammered. "Sure," Roxy beamed," I love yo- I-I mean I'd love to." "How about Friday at 7?" "Of course." "Oh I just found my math homework, I don't need it anymore." "Bye." "Bye." Roxy felt like she was on cloud nine. She did her homework with a dreamy expression on her face. She fell asleep like this, all happy inside.
