Have you ever wondered why English is such a hard language. Well, I may speak it and write it but I do not agree with it. I know you are thinking" English isn't hard to learn I was reading it by the time I was 6," But I am now 15 and I am still learning it and I am all American. so it is a hard language. Did you know that English derived from the orignal indo-European language along with Latin and the modern Romance languages, the Germanic languages, the Indo-Iranian languages, including Hindi and Sanskrit, the Slavic languages, the Baltic languages of Latvian and Lithuanian (but not Estonian),the Celtic languages and Greek. I but you didn't. English is definitely an odd language. Look at some of the words we have, everyone knows that you pronouce the letter Z as a zah sound but why is it that when you put XY togather they make the same sound. I am 15 and still don't know what sound x makes if any. Look at homographs, which is one of two or more words spelled alike but different in meaning or derivation or pronunciation. As far as i know english is the only language with homographs.

(didn't get far with this but it is 2 in the morning right now and the fact that my brain is on overdrive so that i can write isn't a good idea!!!lol! but this is just a sample as is what to come on this subject) (if you have any qustions or comments, don't be afraid to post them) Thank you

Date: 7/28/2002 11:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 5353    Actually you have a bit of it backwards, English is derived from all of those languages, not the other way around. THAT could be a contributing factor as to why it's so confusing.
