Has anybody ever heard of water bowl channeling? About 9 years ago, I had a friend who said that she had this trick where she would stare into a bowl of water and go into a trance and then spirits could enter her and talk through her. She said that the danger was if she touched the water while she was in a trance, her soul would go into the water and she would be lost forever. I found this all very creepy and told her I didn't care for a display of it, but against my remonstrances she grabbed herself a bowl of water and put herself into a trance, and I spent an hour talking to a spirit named David, who called himself the "gate keeper," whatever that's supposed to mean. At one point it asked to touch me, and I declined. And then I thought i saw her hand moving towards the water and I freaked out and broke the trance.
The question is, is there even such a thing as water bowl channeling, or was I completely being led by the nose?
*****I am certainly skeptical about this thing, but there is one detail that I haven't mentioned that gives me cause to wonder. Before she did the channeling thing, I had suggested that I should try hypnotizing her, just to divert her from trying the other thing. You see, I had this great hypnotizing technique, where I would turn off the lights, have the person lie down, and then I would rub the person's temples slowly and rythmically while they counted down from 300, and then spell words for me (did it work, you may ask-- well, usually not). Anyhow, so there we were, with me rubbing her temples as she counted down the numbers. Towards the end I began to get a tingly sensation on the back of my neck and this feeling in my head, like something-- somebody, was moving around in there...I know it sounds strange, but if felt like someone was picking through my brain. I wondered about this feeling, but then dismissed it as my imagination. I asked my friend to spell a few words, and she mispelled them, and thusly determining that the hypnotism was successful, I asked her, "Are you there Angie?" Softly, she replied, "Yes, we're here?" "Huh," I answered, "Who's 'we'?" She replied with the name of the 3 spirits that she was supposedly able to channel. Then I freaked out-- I realized that the feeling that I was getting in my head was somehow related to these spirits, and I took my hands off her head, turned on the light and woke her up. "Oh my God," I cried. "What happened?" she asked. "Those spirits came through while you were hypnotized, and I felt them in my head!" After that she insisted on going through with the channeling session.
It might have been a prank, but I don't know-- that sensation I had was...weird. It's not because I was psyched out-- I was not at all expecting her to start channeling while I was touching her forehead. I was completely calm. I don't know what to make of it. hm
