Unfair Religion In Utah ~Huma

In my school, in Utah, they have decided to give the advantage to the LDS since there are so many of them here

Sure no big deal right? ALL OTHER SCRIPTURE, BOOKS, OR PROPHICY FROM ALL OTHER RELIGIONS, FAITHS DENOMINATIONS, OR OTHERWISE ARE BANNED UNLESS AFFILIATED WITH JOSEPH SMITH, OR THE BOOK OF MORMON,THE ONLY BIBLES ALLOWED ARE JOSEPH SMITH TRANSLATIONS

how do ya like that?

Date: 12/7/2001 9:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 20921    they are the majority down where I live too (mesa, arizona), but it hasnt gone that far, and I dont think it will, so many new people moving in here, that they are beginning to lose their grip, I do feel sorry for you, and I think this is soooo wrong!!!...............
Date: 12/7/2001 9:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 20921    hold on, wouldnt that violate something, somewhere in the constitution???.................
Date: 12/7/2001 9:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 19092    I don't agree with that. In fact, I'm not sure I want them teaching religion in school at all just for this reason. The moral and spiritual education of childern is the responibility of the home and church, not the school, at least not "public" school.
Date: 12/7/2001 9:24:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    I agree, I hope that your society keeps to be a diverse one in Mesa! and that one denomination won't be hailed
Date: 12/7/2001 9:25:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    King Caspian: THEY HAVE LDS classes, they TEACH MORMONISM PERSPECTIVE IN CLASS! they are teaching religion in school, its not right, if you teach religion in school, you should teach in multiview!
Date: 12/7/2001 9:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    Papi: I have no idea, the constitution said religino would not influence government, so that no religion shall rule over all, or influence what anything the government does.. maybe that goes with teaching... ?
Date: 12/7/2001 9:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 20921    They have "seminary" classes here too, but just in certain majority mormon schools(like mine).......
Date: 12/7/2001 9:32:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    they have seminary classes here, 2 of them, and the district has given them 100% free teaching, and breaches of the school policies, so they don't have to follow school rules in their classroom
Date: 12/7/2001 9:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 38474    Well I don't LIKE it one little bit, RELIGION should be taught in the home and church NOT in school. I TOTALLY agree with K.C. on this.........
Date: 12/7/2001 9:42:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    I know Raci, especially since it is restricted to some, and oppression to others
Date: 12/7/2001 9:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 40359    That's not right. Someone should complain. LoveGir9
Date: 12/7/2001 10:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 16865    A county over here has been taken to court over Bible classes in public school. Couldn't someone there take them to court? Aren't there any atheist? The only way to change things is to stand up, you'll never be heard if you whisper into books.
Date: 12/7/2001 10:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    I know what you are going through. I just moved back from Utah to Michigan last July. There is definitely NO separation between church and state in Utah. The old saying "if you can't beat em', join em'... shouldn't apply in Utah. I say, get out as sooooon as you can! ;)
Date: 12/8/2001 8:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 16671    Huma, I know, I just read in the salt lake tribune, where three college boys at byu, went through the internet to recieve ministers liencese because at byu which is an lds run college, one can not hold a dance unless they follow the guide lines, one of which is a minister has to be present. So they did this so they could hold the dance, NOW they are in trouble with byu college and are being brought up before the school board there AND probably will be ex-communicated from their *mormon* church. That is so stupid. I pray that God goes with you huma as I know how you have came close to getting kicked out of school, for standing up for your rights. I dont know if your parents would back you up in this or not, but I would still take MY kind James version bible to school, and then when they kicked me out, I WOULD CONTACT JAY SKEKULOW and file a law suit against them.
Date: 12/8/2001 10:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 16845    I know that mormonism is big in utah I have quite a bit of family in utah and my mother's side of the family is mormon I may not be baptized but that's where my heart belongs.....BUT Even if the vast number of students are mormon, I do not think religion should be brought into the schools UNLESS you are going to a religious school! Seperation of church and state. lol if your going to bring ONE religion in you NEED to allow them ALL.....
Date: 12/8/2001 10:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 22080    so pagans and wiccans cant wear anything symbolizing the wiccan or pagan religon i would get kicked out of school the first day then i would bring it to the supreme court for invasion of the freedom of religon
Date: 12/8/2001 11:29:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    Lovegi9, I am complaining, No one will listen because they are all LDS, the school won't listen, the district won't, and I am awaiting the answer from the state
Date: 12/8/2001 11:30:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    Dotchi, I'm trying, I'm slowly moving up, but for now all i can do is whisper into a book, for now anyway.. as i said to Gi9, I am awaiting the state's answer
Date: 12/8/2001 11:31:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    YOUCHOOSE: I know, its all oppression, The oppressed non LDS of Utah are slowly moving up
Date: 12/8/2001 11:33:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    Becky, I agree, I have been encouraging other non LDS to practice at school
Date: 12/8/2001 11:34:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    Jestr, yep, nothing but LDS is allowed in school (to be practiced)
Date: 12/8/2001 11:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 17525    Well Huma, it looks like you've got your work cut out for you. First, I'd like to know if this is a "publically funded" school, or a private institution. If the former, your first task (should you decide to accept it) is to find out how much money the school receives from the State; per student. These records should be available to you. Financial records from public schools should be available to you via FOI. THEN, you have your ammo. Start writing letters. This is a great post, but it's also a great opportunity for you to become involved in change. Do it now while you've got the energy. It's much more difficult to fight these battles after you're out of school and into the working world. get Busy!!! You have a lot of work ahead of you. Find people who feel the same way and communicate. Form a group. Start encouraging other beliefs to come to the forefront and make their needs known as well. Believe me Huma, even if you accomplish nothing, it will be worth it in the long run. You'll know you have tried and you will have learned a lot from the experience. good luck. Peace,
Date: 12/8/2001 12:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 37354    Huma, odds of success are pretty low. Concentrate on chasing girls and schoolwork. Hugo
Date: 12/8/2001 1:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    i agree with osiris hugo theres another sarcastic remark anywho fight back thats illegal its a federal offence i believe
Date: 12/8/2001 3:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 37354    No sarcasm intended, the odds of success are low. Hugo
Date: 12/8/2001 3:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 47805    i think that its fine...its the church that pays for everything that has to do with seminary...and its not really in school..because you dont get any credits for going there -leopardess-
Date: 12/9/2001 11:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 47296    I am afraid there is not much that can be done about this. The state of Utah, which has it's state constitution based on Mormon law, is pretty much free to do as it pleases. Regardless of what the people in Washington, DC think, the Constitution of the United States allows states to set there own laws, and to conduct their own affairs. Just pray that this country never faces another civil war. The first thing you will see is all non-Mormons removed from that state, and their land and property confiscated. The Mormon religion is a law unto itself. <Warrior Spirit>
Date: 12/10/2001 8:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 31673    Hmmm . . . what school do you go to?
Date: 12/10/2001 10:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 31673    Nevemind. I probably shouldn't ask such personal questions. Take it up with the ACLU. They love to take on cases like this, and they'd probably do it pro bono.
Date: 12/10/2001 10:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 31673    Nevemind. I probably shouldn't ask such personal questions. Take it up with the ACLU. They love to take on cases like this, and they'd probably do it pro bono.
Date: 12/10/2001 11:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 27678    Shocking. Guess Utah's a different world, huh, Huma. And if there's gonna be a BIBLE, why not the King James? But, of course, like many other Christian denominations, God didn't give them all the info they needed in his ONE BOOK, did He? LOL. Free Girl
Date: 12/10/2001 4:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 31673    Hey, we DO study the King James version of the Bible. I'm a little unsure as to what Huma's even talking about. Joseph Smith did translate a couple of books of the New Testament, but there's no complete Bible with his translations. Typically those translations appear at the end of the Book of Mormon/Pearl of Great Price along with the Joseph Smith History. My thought is that the only reason that they allow the LDS students to bring scriptures to school is because as one of their electives they can take an off period and go off campus to a local church building (typically across the street from the school) and take Seminary (where they study the KJV Bible, Book of Mormon and other church books). Maybe they are allowed to bring a set of scriptures for that purpose, but no other religious materials are allowed. I highly doubt they are studying the Bible in regular classes or that students are being forced to study Mormon doctrine. The LDS students bring their scriptuures along with the rest of their text books and keep them in their locker until they go to Seminary (which, by the way, you don't have to be LDS to attend). There shouldn't be any kind of religious services going on on school grounds, anyway. I'm sure if there was, the ALCU would be all over it. That's why I asked what school Huma attends. I'd like to find out how they could get away with studying the "Mormon Bible" as part of their regular curriculum? Surely there would be all kinds of lawsuits over it.
Date: 12/10/2001 6:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    i go to th bell jr high, http://www.thbell.weber.k12.ut.us , and there are three king james bibles, the pure one, the one with Joseph Smith's notes and study reference, and the new king james,
Date: 12/11/2001 8:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 31673    Well, I assure you. I carry with me to church every week a "pure" King James Version bible. I don't know what the deal is with your school. Why are kids bringing bibles to school anyway? Have you contacted the ACLU? Believe me, they LOVE to sue the LDS Church and groups affiliated with it.
Date: 12/11/2001 10:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 47218    hm, I don't think I would want to tangle with the Latter Days Saints on their turf. I mean, those people are extremely into their religion and the mormon church is very powerful there-- you'd probably fall into a little "accident" if you were to become a trouble-maker. Seriously, though, I'm sure the mormon church doesn't want other religions to gain a foothold in their state. It's the only place in the world where they're in the majority.
Date: 12/11/2001 2:13:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16989    Sure i'll contact them, sometimes i feel this is a cry for attention, sometimes I feel like an emissiary
