Author William Faulkner sought refuge within these walls in 1930, but he found his peace disturbed by the ghost of a young woman. The house was built in 1844 by Colonel Robert Sheegog. Faulkner told friend's about Sheegog's daughter, Judith, who died trying to elope with a Union soldier. As she climbed out of her window on a rope ladder, the rope broke, she lost her balance, and fell to her death, hitting the brick walkway below her. However, Sheegog never had a daughter named Judith. Faulkner made the story up to explain the strange footsteps, the sounds of objects crashing to the floor, and ghostly piano music in the palor, where there was no piano. Those phenomena still go onin the house to this date and noone has ever been able to find a better explanation.Haunted Placesp.241. 32DEGREE
