DOGS THAT ATTACK

  Author: 26717  Category:(Discussion) Created:(4/21/2001 7:34:00 PM)

I saw a program on tv today about dogs that have mauled people to death and seriously injured others. This show was mostly about pit bulls. Who do you think should be responsible when a dog commits an act of violence. Are you afraid of this happening to you. I am scared od mean dogs because I was attacked as a child but not seriously. What kind of dogs would you be afraid of?

As for who's responsible, mostly the owners, unless the dog is sick; that's another matter. If a dog should happen to attack you, first, try not to get hurt....ummm...anyways, a lot of people are afraid of dogs just like you, so don't worry, and I'm sure you'll be fine :) mik12

Date: 4/21/2001 7:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 20921    I dont under stand why people say pitbulls are mean, they are mean because thats the way their owners train them!!!!!! My 2 pitbulls were nicer and more friendly than my Golden retriever, and I am never worried about him attacking someone, he loves to go out and play with other dogs in the neighborhood.
Date: 4/21/2001 7:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 28660    Some owners train their dogs to be violent.I think if this is the case, and the dog attacks and kills someone the owner should be charged with manslaughter.I try to keep my distance from any dog I'm not familiar with. You never know.My cousin was bitten really badly as a child. She tried to play with a dog while it was eating.I remember her whole head being covered in bandages. It was awful. Tiger Lily

Date: 4/21/2001 8:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 24845    Well, I've heard of the same show that your talking about. I'm afraid of HUGE dogs, like German Shepards and Rotts. Even the dalmation gets me edgy, (Only because I've heard of them to be mean.) Personally though, I get a vibe about dogs that are acting strange. So far I've never led myself astray. NO PUN. LOL :) I've been chased by a homeless dog once. It was scary. As far as who can be blamed. The owners. They are responsable for knowing thier dog, letting it get out or training it to "guard" thier house. A majority of the time, they would have ended up being attacked by it. So yes, I say it's the owners fault.

Date: 4/21/2001 8:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 25828    The owner - under most circumstances...it is how the dogs are raised that affects how they act when they are grown...dogs are taught to attack...if a neighbors kid comes into your yard and is teasing the three big black german shepards...throwing things at them...on YOUR private property...and they jump the fence (protecting their yard) then it is that kids fault and no one elses...I know someone that this happened to...the kid didn't get killed...but the dogs did jump the fence and got after him pretty good...he was of teen age...he was throwing big rocks at the dogs...he got what he deserved..no scars...but i bet he learned a valuable lesson..~heather
Date: 4/21/2001 8:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    My little brother was attacked by our dog years ago, the dogs name was "Mean Dog", he always growled at people, I don't know why my parents kept him. He was part wolf and part dog. One day my dad picked me up from school and they told me my brother was at the hospital because our dog attacked him. He had to get plastic surgery on his face, and still has scars. The dog went to the vet and they cut his head off to check for rabies. But the dog didn't have rabies. Years later we got a Golden Retriever, she is always nice to us, but she hates strangers. My friend's little sister tried to pet her and she almost got bit. So now Goldie has to be on a chain. My other dog is really tiny and only bites people if they accidentaly hurt him and sometimes not even then. I think it is the dog owners responsibility to keep their dog from harming others. But sometimes the dogs have no homes, that's what happened to the dog that attacked my brother. He was a stray dog and we usually keep stray dogs and we give them a good home. (<>..<>)Alien
Date: 4/21/2001 8:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 20778    i dont think harm should come to the animal , its only doing what it thinks is right and what has been brought up to do. You should charge the person who trained the dog in the first place. My smallest dog was trained to be protective so we have to watch her around other people ,while the biggest (chow/lab mix)is the most lovable boy u could meet..
Date: 4/21/2001 9:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 2183    When I was twelve years old I was attacked by a German Shepherd. It ripped open my head and nearly snapped my arm in half. I endured 18 staples in my head, 15 stitches in my arm and two surgeries. It is a frightening thing, and it was my own pet. I did nothing to provoke it, we have no idea why it went crazy, but when you buy a pet or adopt a pet you need to take in consideration the risks you are taking. I do not think anyone deserves to be attacked, but I also do not want to pin the blame on anyone either.
Date: 4/21/2001 9:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    great post! i feel the animal committs a fatal error when it bites a human! people that train these dogs this way that are not law enforcement should also be punished! my best friend bog, my companion and familiar bit at my daughter and daughter in law. (my daughter used to torment buffy) i had to get buffy put down 4 years ago. i miss her every day but she was to jealous of ever sharing me. i've always had dogs but i'll never trust one completely. my German Shepherd is 4 yrs old and will let my 3 year old grand daughter do anything to her. my 6yr old austrailian cattle dog loves my other grand baby and all people and has never bit anyone untill the other day! he got hyper and bit my daughter, not hard but a nip. that was a nip too much! i watched that same show and it seems that pit bulls and rots are more agressive. sometimes bad breeding and the wrong training do it! penny44
