Where are our manners??

A rapidly growing problem in our society is one that would take but 2 seconds to correct, if we were all doing our part. Its something I've seen every day and its growing at USM as well. I've noticed people are forgetting to be just a little polite. I see people saying 'Tell Admin that I want to talk with him'; or they will ask an admin for someone's user id, with no please or thank you. This isn't to everyone or anyone specific, just a generalization. This also extends from members to members not just to admin's.

The other day I was at the mall and I had to go potty really, really bad. I went into the public washroom & all the stalls were taken so I waited. Just a few min later some big (size-wise) older woman came in pushed her way by me and took the first stall that came available. I just stood there with my mouth open, its not bad enough that she pushed by me but I am pregnant and right now I look very, very pregnant, so its not like she couldn't know.

Things like this really bug me. Whatever happened to saying thank you or please? Or giving the seats on the bus to the elderly or handicapped? Or letting someone go before you? Why are we all forgetting to be just a little more polite. My hubby sees this a lot at his job. People will come up and say 'Fill it up'or '$5 regular' where did the please go? Yes its his job but does that mean he should be treated with less respect than others?

I just wish we could all remember to try and use just a little more courtesy and respect in our daily lives. It makes the world a little nicer and it makes others day a little nicer.

Date: 4/20/2001 8:12:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 609    I forgot to add on, our mall has not only handicapped parking BUT expectant mother parking. The day I went to the mall there was a spot in the expectant mother, its usually the forth spot in from the building, someone rushed in before me and out of the car came a 40-45 yr old guy!! He looked in great shape to me, no 'crippy pass' as my handicapped aunt would say and he most certainaly was NOT pregnant. I was lucky Jamie was there, he got out of the car and told the guy to find another spot, but he shouldnt have to do that. I mean its common sense they offer good spots to thoes who can't walk as far ect. I think its really unfair and should be more enforced.
Date: 4/20/2001 8:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 8717    It is sad that there are rude people out there. Unfortunatly it seems as thought we have become and adult oriented selfish society these days. We only care about what we can get and want it NOW. There was a post about someone using a handicapped parking space and it made me very upset that the person used it simply to save the 10- 25 cents late fee on their books to the library.
Date: 4/20/2001 8:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 24924    When I'm entering a building, and I hold the door for someone, (all ages, both genders) and they just wAlk right through without so much as a glance in my direction, let alone any word of thanks or appreciation, I STILL am just stunned at this. I go out of my way to show thanks and appreciation to waiters and waitresses, and boy do they remember me when I come back again! They tell me stories about RUDE, ill mannered people.
I can only imagine that they must NEVER have learned any manners at home. Ill mannered people are everywhere these days, and it seems they're all out looking for someone to sue about some dumb thing, thinking they can get a buck or two.
*sigh* The Thinker

Date: 4/20/2001 9:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 27912    I cant stand rude people. I remember this lady took this parking space, that I was signaling to and I was next to it already and she just drove on. Then I ended up parking far, because she's a b.
